Baseball fans can enjoy watching some of the greatest teams battle it out in a shortened MLB series. The premier league kicked off on the 20th of October, 2020, and club games are played without fans present – but none of this has distracted from the players’ energy or the fans’ enthusiasm. As much as we’ve enjoyed watching our favorite sports from our sofas in lockdown, something has still got to be said for attending the live event. That’s why we created a sports bucket list of some of the best, and most famous, sporting events, so that you know which ones to attend when restrictions lift. Now, these sporting events aren’t just for sports fans as their great atmosphere and charm mean they can appeal to almost anyone. One such event is the World Series.

The World Series, United States

The MLB World Series is a staple of American culture, and with 162 games to this championship series, it entertains the population for most of the year and concludes with a dramatic knock-out tournament, also known as postseason.

First played in 1903, the planet series championship is the best-of-seven playoff, a contest between baseball’s National League and American League champions. Often referred to as the ‘Fall Classic’. Since then we’ve seen some great baseball matches, such as the Mets’ stunning comeback in Game 6 in 1986.

In 2019, the Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros in seven games. This year, Planet Series will be the championship series of big-league Baseball’s 2020 season. The series began on October 20th, with a possible Game 7 scheduled to be played on October 28th. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all games will occur at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Next, we are looking at another game that includes bats and balls – cricket.

Cricket World Cup

Initially organized in England in 1975, this one-day international cricket tournament happens every four years and has become the crown of cricketing greatness.

Famous cricketing nations are Australia, UK, New Zealand, The West Indies, South Africa, India, and Pakistan. The most successful of which has been Australia, after accumulating 5 titles. Recent years have seen some unlikely participants, including Fiji and Thailand.

Test cricket has left many people thinking that cricket is slow and boring. That’s not the case with the World Cup thanks to its faster scoring and the fact it doesn’t last for five days. Meaning that even cricket novices can enjoy the game.

With that being said, nothing is as fast as Formula 1.

Monaco Grand Prix, Monaco

The Grand Prix has been held on the streets of Monaco since 1929. The famous racing competition is among the most prestigious in the world. Canceled in 2020 but is planned to be back on the tarmac on the 20th of May, 2021.

Considered to be the most demanding course in Formula 1, the Circuit de Monaco offers an exciting road race where every driver can earn their victory. The Monaco Grand Prix is also considered the most glamorous race, so is worth attending even just for some sunshine and to ogle at some mega-yachts.

Every famous race driver has graced the Grand Prix, including the late Ayrton Senna, who won the race an unprecedented six times. Currently, English racing driver Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes hold pole position.

From race cars to rugby…

Rugby World Cup

Rugby’s worldly competition occurs every four years, which seems to be the case with a lot of world cups. The 2023 world cup will be held in France where South Africa, commonly known as the Springboks, will return to defend their title.

The best thing about the Rugby World Cup is that it caters to everyone, from those who fancy a 6 week holiday to those who are happy to see one game.

If rugby is too violent, try a trip to the 18th hole complete with plaid trousers and spats.

The Open Championship, England and Scotland

Usually held on the weekend of the third Friday in July, the Open Championship is not only the oldest golf tournament in the world, but it’s also the only Major not held in the United States.

Since its establishment in 1860, the Open has never been canceled, that is until this year. Due to the coronavirus, the 149th tournament has been rescheduled to take place in 2021 at Royal St George’s in Kent. Golf fans will anticipate the 150th Open in 2022 that is set to be a grand event at the famous St Andrews golf course.

This isn’t the only gold event to make the list.

The Ryder Cup

The Cup is a men’s golf competition between teams from the US and Europe. The game takes place every two years, with the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe.

The famous golf tournament is named after the English businessman Samuel Ryder who donated the massive gold trophy. The 43rd Ryder Cup will be held in the United States in 2021 on the Straits course at Whistling Straits.

Team Europe is the reigning cup holder after its victory over Team USA in 2018, Le Golf National. Perhaps the most established and beloved golfing competition that does not involve any prize money.

The best thing about attending a golf tournament is that it gives you the chance to follow your favorite player around the course as well as allowing you to explore some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world.

Are you tired of golf, how about cycling?

Tour De France, France

Since 1903, this three-week, 2,000-mile trek has become the most popular of the bicycle Grand Tours. Starting in Nice and ending in Paris. The 2020 Tour De France took place from 29th August to 20th September 2020.

Tadej Pogačar, UCI World Team, came first – earning this 21-year-old the title of the second youngest cyclist to ever win the Tour De France. Primož Roglič of team Jumbo–Visma finished in second place, while Australian Richie Porte, team Trek–Segafredo, came in third.

The Tour de France is a chance to explore the French countryside, get caught up in the electric atmosphere, and potentially witness some dramatic crashes first hand.

And finally, no bucket list would be complete without the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl

The Super Bowl 2020 was played out on the 2nd February 2020 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The Kansas City Chiefs played the San Francisco 49ers in the final, and after a challenging game, The Chiefs won the game 31-20.

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest events in America and is worth attending even if it’s just for the spectacular performance of a famous music artist. The most famous sport in the world is not just a sport, but an entire entertainment fixture.

All these sporting events offer an amazing atmosphere and the chance to watch history be made – which is why you should make these sports part of your bucket list.
