Only God knows what these soulful eyes have seen, what this beautiful dog has gone through on the streets
I love dogs. Whenever I have time, I will cycle to Pets Villa at Pasir Ris Farmway 3 to visit the dogs. Luxurious as the name sounds, Pets Villa is actually an animal shelter for stray and abandoned dogs and cats. It is run by Animal Lovers League who currently looks after 350 animals on a plot of land about half the size of a football pitch. The shelter encourages people to adopt, but only three or four successful matches are made each month.
Compared to the dogs at pet shops, these dogs come with a sense of street-smart wisdom (or should I say, jadedness) and are usually cautious when humans first approach them. Let them get used to your presence, and they are the sweetest creatures you can find. I feel so sad they should experience the plight of being abandoned and made to roam the streets, fending for their lives.
On high alert when strangers arrive
This brown dog seems to be the leader of the pack, and was always standing on the cages keeping watch. The one on the left, which looks like a husky mix, thought a nap would be a better hobby.
Striking a model-worthy pose. With a non-chalant look.
Do I really look so delicious?!
High time to diet, dammit.
Most are just happy to chill out on their own
This dude has mastered the art of sit-sleeping
While this one goes splat-sleeping
And this…loss for words
She’s just asking for a tummy-rub from the shelter staff. She’s very friendly and loves to be petted.
I lost my heart to this sweet dog. He came so near to the fencing so I could pet him, and seemed to understand when I talked to him. I wish I could give him a home, sigh.
Make these dogs happy
Monthly expenses for the animal shelter can amount to S$40,000 and Animal Lovers League needs all the help they can get. How you can help:
* Become a volunteer
* Sponsor a dog for S$130 a month
* Products or monetary donation
