A Royal Treat at Kesariya

Kesariya is Bangalore’s first complete Rajasthani Marwari Restaurant. Located in JP Nagar, Bangalore it is in the same building as Brewsky. Kesariya serves rich traditional Marwari food with the same hospitality as that of Royal Families. Dinning here is nothing less than feasting in the royal haveli’s with antiques from the rich heritage of Rajasthan. The interiors are of a royal palace and the cutlery used is of silver for the ultimate experience.

Kesariya recently opened Suvarna Mahal, their banquet hall for parties and events. The grandeur of Royal Haveli’s continues here as well with curved wooden work to colorful frescoes. Suvarna Mahal is now become the focal point for most of the traditional events that happen here. We witnessed the Ghoomar Festival here with performances from the Deen Mohammad troupe. The group performed various folk songs along with the Ghoomar dancers, making sure everyone is swinging to their beats.

Kesariya believes that an a-la-carte menu would not do justice to the admirer to experience this vast cultural journey. Therefore, they serve just a Royal Thali everyday which consists of 25+ items made with traditional ingredients. Most of these come from Rajasthan be it the bajra or the sangri among others. The dishes on this thali keep on changing based on the season and availability.

The Royal meal had items from all spheres. Masala Chaas and Aam Panna are served to quench one’s thirst. While Malai Ghewar With Rabdi is served at the beginning, that’s how the Royal’s dine! The Malai Ghewar was out of the world and simply fabulous. For starters we had the Aloo Pyaz Ki Kachori, Paneer Pakoda, Shekhawati Tikki and the Moong Dal Dahi Vada. The Dahi Vada was made in traditional style and was an explosion of flavors. The Thali consists of many condiments like the Green Chutney, Garlic Chutney, Achaar and salad.

Dal Batti with Churma is served next with a generous sprinkling of desi ghee on top of Dal Panchmisali. This treat also had various vegetarian curries like the Maharaja Paneer, Shekhawati Chana, Papad Mangodi, Do Chonk Ki Dal, Mangodi Ki Kadhi and Gobi Matar. For us the Maharaja Paneer and the Mangodi ki Kadhi stood out. These are best tried with breads like Fulka, Saboot Dal Ka Parantha or the Masala puri with ghee on top. The Dum Biryani was also delicious.

If that’s all you think, then you are wrong. The Thali had very unusual dishes like Raabdi and Bajra Ki Kheechdi which are only prepared during festivities. The Bajra Ki Kheechdi can be tried with Imlana or tamarind pulp with spices and the combination is insane! To end it all we had the Royal Pumpkin Halwa and the Fruit Cream. And not to forget the Kesariya Kulfi made in a homely fashion.

The service at Kesariya needs a special mention as the staff are very generous. Please don’t hesitate to ask for more if you liked something! Overall, the Royal Thali at Kesariya is a sneek-peak into the Royal Haveli’s of Rajasthan.
