A New Face for Put This On

I normally hate doing anything that smacks of self-promotion, but Put This On relaunched this week and I couldn’t be prouder. For the last eight months, my team and I have been working hard on redesigning the site. Put This On, after all, is coming up on its ten-year anniversary next year. We felt it was time to freshen up our look.

When we first started this project, we wanted to solve a few design challenges. It was important to us that the new site be mobile friendly. We also wanted to give readers easier access to our archive (although, with 7,500 posts in PTO’s history, we’re still only about a third of the way through tagging everything). And we wanted to create a page that could serve as a resource guide on how to dress better, especially for new readers who may not want to get lost in the muck of reading about niche topics.

Hopefully, the site’s new features should be intuitive, but you can read about the main ones in this post. There’s a new and improved menu bar; a bit of reorganizing on the front page. My favorite part is the “Start Here” section, which is basically that resource guide mentioned earlier. I’m still writing posts for that section – one on how to dress for weddings, another breaking down the idea of a silhouette. But the idea there is to give people a resource they can easily return to. One about the practical considerations of building a better wardrobe without being dogmatic about style or stating the obvious. If you like it enough, we’d love it if you recommend that page to friends.

I’m really proud of the work we do at Put This On. I think the content is smart without being stuffy; classic without being overly about the rules. I’d like to think that the site is both fun and relevant to people’s lives, touching on things such as Americana, workwear, classic tailoring, and contemporary casualwear. I hope the new design reflects that spirit. If you haven’t already, you can visit the site here or subscribe to our content by adding Put This On to your preferred RSS reader.
