Nestled away in the scoop of Majorca’s famous Tramuntana mountains, only 20 minutes from the crystalline beaches that make the island such a popular holiday destination, lies an old farmhouse newly converted into a hotel – the Son Ametler.
Son Ametler is the second hotel from the British-Italian couple James Hiscock and Paola Cassini that own Finca Es Castell, another Majorcan converted farmhouse that is often voted Tripadvisor’s best hotel in Spain.
Carrying on the Agroturismo theme that proved so successful with the couple’s first hotel, Son Ametler is an 18th century rural retreat with its own farm providing organic ingredients for its restaurant. Spread out over 25 hectares of land amongst almond and olive orchards, the boutique hotel has eight rooms, its own swimming pool and a private terrace for the guests to totally hideaway in.
But if you feel like venturing outside, the Unesco World Heritage Tramuntana mountains are well known for their spectacular dive into the sea and beautiful beaches of Pollenca and Alcudia. Far away from the busy, tourist-laden towns that so often characterise the island, the northern mountain range is a welcome getaway with miles of walks and local villages to pop into. Palma airport is only 35 minutes away making it easily accessible for weekend breaks or summer weeks away, but after arriving, you might wish it wasn’t so easy to get home.
Hotel Son Ametler opens in February 2014. Prices start at €125 a night per room, but rises to €145 in high season (based on two people, including breakfast). See their website, or call (+34) 687 934 435 for more information.
