A Lovely Lakeside Waikato Wedding by Nita Meyer

By Jax

Cool cat's Chis and Laura said 'I do' at the beautiful Lake Karapiro with their reception at the iconic Cambridge town hall (so very cool!). Their relaxed and elegant day was beautifully captured by another super cool cat NITA MEYER PHOTOGRAPHY and the photos are simply perfect. Oh and that dress is WOW, believe it or not bride Laura bought it off Trade Me #winning.

3 Ideas to steal 1. If any of your family or friends have a beautiful lawn/garden/piece of land they the don't mind you using for the ceremony and/or reception go for it (it will probably save you some mulah and add a little uniqueness to your day!) 2. Find a venue where you can BYO alcohol (the brides advice!), another great way to save money! 3. A wedding is a great opportunity to teach yourself a new skill, attend a floral styling workshop then make your own bouquets or an introduction to Photoshop and create your own unique wedding stationery, you will feel extra proud of what you achieved and have gained a sweet new skill for the future!

Over a beer at the student pub whilst living in the same halls of residence at Canterbury University (we've been together for 11 years - good things take time!).

In three words describe your wedding style... Relaxed, earthy, social.

Save = The dress (found on trademe) | Splurge = Gold cutlery

Most difficult = Being let down by the band a few months out and having to source a quality replacement (we found one though, phew!).

Most fun = Dress shopping with my Mum and sister in Wellington (even though we didn't find "the one" at the time).

Hens = Girls weekend away wine tasting in the Hawkes Bay.

Stag = Bus pub crawl (after a wayward golf club Chris ended up with a severely bruised and swollen right butt cheek and couldn't sit for the week leading up to the wedding!).

Aisle = Better together, Jack Johnson. Back down the aisle = I can't feel my face, The Weekend. First dance = Total Eclipse of the Heart, Bonnie Tyler.

Yes - DIY canapés (we chose items that we could prep a day or two in advance and had some helpers assemble them on the day. Flowers (pulled together with flowers from the garden of a lovely neighbour and the creative skills of my godmum). Invitations and all stationery - I had to teach myself how to use Photoshop.

We popped up to Russell for a few days for our "mini-moon" and have plans to head overseas later in the year. Cuba, Myanmar, India and Sri Lanka are on the short list. We're yet to make a call on which country we'll visit.

There are tonnes of amazing flowers in gardens around the community - you don't have to spend a fortune if you don't want to. Find a venue where you can BYO alcohol.
