The lives of the Barrett's, a suburban New England family, are torn apart when fourteen-year-old Marjorie begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia. To her parents' despair, the doctors are unable to halt Marjorie's descent into madness. As their stable home devolves into a house of horrors, they reluctantly turn to a local Catholic priest for help, and soon find themselves the unwitting stars of The Possession, a hit reality television show.

I read this for 2017 Popsugar Reading Challenge. The category is 'a book recommended by an author you love. This was recommended by Stephen King.***
This is my first time reading the author.
I really don't know what to make of this book.
I wanted to read it because of a quote by Stephen King on the cover indicating it scared the hell out of him. If something scares Stephen King you bet I want to be all over that.
Unfortunately, I wasn't all that impressed.
Some things worked really well:
I liked the start, when things are creepy and disquieting and I had no idea what the hell was going on. I loved the ending. It took me by surprise and I never saw it coming. It reminded me of the amazing book by Shirley Jackson, We Have Always Lived in The Castle.
I just felt the middle of the book didn't work at all. I couldn't connect with the characters and didn't care what happened to them. Even the excellent ending couldn't redeem my lacklustre impression.
