A Girl Who Wears Glasses

They call it eyeglasses, some call it specs but we simply know it as glasses, the magical frame-bearing lenses that let people with weak vision see the world clearly. Indeed, it's a splendid invention but I never liked it and never even imagined myself wearing one. Then the day I had to, came sooner than expected.

I am a girl who wears glasses.

That thing I hate so much became a necessity in an instant. Walking with a blurred vision is dangerous, so I decided to wear them despite my uneasiness. But there are people who wear them as an accessory. Sunglasses are fine especially for protection and it's stylish, to begin with; however, using eyeglasses as an accessory is irritating for a girl who wears and needs one.

Story Time

A Girl Who Wears Glasses
There was a girl in school who suddenly wore eyeglasses and carried 2-3 books. It's none of my business but she was my seatmate. I felt embarrassed for almost always asking her what was written on the board or the monitor during presentations. So one day I told her I didn't know her vision was not that good and will just bother my other seatmate. She then replied that it's alright because her vision is perfect even without the glasses. She then handed me her glasses so I tried it on.

Then it dawned on me that there are people who want things but never seem to need it at all. As a result, they misuse it. Looking smart is different from being smart. I'm not judging her intellect as she is a smart girl with a keen sense of style. But it reminded me of the time when digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLR) became a fad.

It's totally fine if you flaunt your gadget but make sure you know how to use it properly. A DSLR camera is not a necklace; it's a digital camera with great quality and response as well as lenses to choose from. It's pretty similar to glasses; not to mention, the joy you feel once you see those brilliant pictures.

A girl who wears glasses will definitely appreciate those magnificent views even in dim lights. Seeing where you step when you get up in the middle of the night as well as reading store signs when walking in the street eliminates the feeling of being lost. It's a great feeling being able to see clearly. However, there are many struggles a girl who wears glasses experiences.

Watching a movie in 3D? Two words: good luck!

Try placing the 3D glasses over your glasses. The feeling isn't good unless you wear contacts which can be a problem. Not all girls who wear glasses are confident to wear contacts. Honestly, I am scared to put those thin lenses in my eyes but find it amazing seeing others put it.

Let's take some pictures. Okay, please remove your glasses!

Why do you keep on telling me to remove it? I can't see a damn thing. Who am I smiling at? Where will I look? It's actually fine to take my picture while wearing my glasses because I hate the gap from removing it and then wearing it again.

I know it's challenging to take a shot but just search for proper . It will turn out great. Plus, I have made my peace with the glass glare because my glasses will always be a part of my face. Accept it, people! I have. *BTW, I'm talking about group photos, okay? Not passport photos, etc.

Avoiding the crowd? Well, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Just because you're already wearing glasses, doesn't mean it's going to be easy to look at everything or look for someone. To be honest, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

You really have to know what you're looking for to make things easier. And when you meet with someone or your friends, it would be helpful if they look for you as well. Ask them to wave at you or shout your name once they spot you. 🙂 Yes, it's embarrassing but you'll be fine.

Rain or shine? It doesn't matter!

There's no perfect weather for a girl who wears glasses. If it rains, be prepared to wipe off raindrops. However, if you keep your glasses it's still going to be troublesome. You won't see a thing. So always bring an umbrella and cleaning cloth with you.

Then on summer, say hello to warm to hot weather. If you're not gifted with the perfect skin, better have a tissue or an oil control film ready. Your eyeglasses will definitely slip and slide down your nose bridge. Thus, you will have to readjust your glasses every five or so seconds.

*When you clean or adjust your glasses, make sure your fingertips are clean as well. Better make sure your fingertips don't touch the glass or it will leave a mark.

Are your glasses just for show? Seriously!

The last thing you want to happen is people ask you if you're glasses are just for show because it freaking looks good on you. Or, it looks stylish and expensive. Blurred vision exists, okay? There are people in this world that doesn't have good eyesight.

I think it's easy to distinguish if a person has bad eyesight or not. Let's say a person who has looks at a picture. He usually adjusts his glasses, stares intently on a certain point, and slowly moves to another.

An image doesn't register in our minds easily. We take our time to look at things similar to searching for the right glasses. If the glasses look good on a person and it looks expensive, it means he took the time to choose the right one - quality and style - because he intends to wear it for a long time.

Shopping for the perfect frame? Determine your face shape first!

When I purchased my third glasses, I was able to use it for 3 years. On that second year, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and my face shape changed. It didn't bother me at first and then my face shape became bigger and rounder. I had to say goodbye to the smaller lens and say hello to the bigger one. The struggle of having to consider the frames can sometimes be irritating.

Is now the time? Yep, it's eye exam time!

Eye exams can be a pain. While some prefer to do it every two years, I do it every year. I often read books and use the computer and smartphone many times a day. There will definitely be a huge change in my eyesight in a matter of months. Doing a yearly eye exam is good but it can be annoying sometimes.

One, you have to line up and wait since there will be people who have a difficult time choosing their frame. I suggest to research and check out different frames online first. Two, you already know what you want and you just want them to give you the new lenses for your eyeglass or the new frames pronto!

In eyesight, I mean in a nutshell!

Wearing glasses isn't easy. Though I hated it at first, I grew to love those magical frame-bearing lenses. It helps me focus, capture, and appreciate the views around me just like a camera. As a girl who wears glasses, I hope you take care of your eyes well. If the time comes - heaven forbid - where you have to wear one, use it properly. Love it and treat it like a gift that will help you see clearly.
