I’ve read a few other books by George R R Martin. This is my first time reading anything from the A Song of Ice and Fire series.
I loved A Game of Thrones. This is exactly the kind of fantasy novel I love. R R Martin brings a whole new meaning to the words epic fantasy. This novel offers everything you could want from the first volume of an epic fantasy series: murder, madness, treachery, treason, incest and some crazy shit with dragons. There are numerous viewpoint characters in A Game of Thrones but I didn’t get confused once about what was going on. It’s not easy to keep it all straight when there are so many characters and so much going on but R R Martin’s writing is so good I just got swept along. I loved the characters and world created in A Game of Thrones. I’m about to start volume 2, A Clash of Kings and can’t wait to see what madness awaits. I really want to see the TV series now so will need to buy the DVD’s at some point as I don’t have Sky Atlantic.
