A Flower Themed Baby Shower

By Simon Crowther @prestigeflower

There are many occasions in life that encourage us to celebrate but none more than the arrival of a new little bundle of joy.  Baby showers have been a tradition for so many years now that it’s tough to think how new mothers would manage without all those important little gifts.  Usually, baby showers are a surprise and the mum-to-be has no idea when it will take place.  Somebody close enough to her will plan everything from the guest list to food and décor.  When it comes to décor, the possibilities are endless!  If, however, you are looking for something really special and different, get some fresh flowers involved.  Not only will they brighten up the room, but each guest will have something to take home with them too.  Besides, your florist will be able to  make that fresh flower delivery on the day so you won’t even have to run around.  Focus on the food and other things and, once the flowers arrive, just place them wherever you planned.

Many mothers these days choose to find out the gender of their babies.  So, with this information, you will be able to plant a pink or blue party.  Decorate each place setting with a mini bouquet that includes an uneven number of flowers in the designated color and add some greenery for good measure.  If you like, you can finish the bouquets off by placing a little toy in the middle.  Toys that would be suitable include a little baby girl or boy or perhaps a teddy bear.  If your mini bouquets are placed in tiny vases, make sure that the toys are propped up on sticks so that they don’t fall into the water.  Otherwise, and easier method would be to have the bouquets arranged in floral foam.  They are a lot easier for your guests to transport home too.

Get creative with your food and have your tarts, cakes or biscuits decorated with similar flowers.  You can use fresh flowers if you like or you can have the bakery decorate them with marzipan or gum paste flowers as an edible alternative.  Marzipan can even be kept as a souvenir for those who are just that sentimental.

As popular as it is to find out if you are having a boy or a girl, there are still many couples who choose to keep it a surprise.  Not to worry!  You can still choose a theme for your baby shower!  Nothing says happiness and joy like a bright sunflower.  Yellow is a color that is sure to make guests feel happy and it is neutral so it will work no matter if mom is expecting a boy or girl.  Yellow flower arrangements look really cute if you place a little toy bumble bee amongst them.  The black and yellow stripes are a lovely contrast.  Of course, your option of including a toy baby or teddy bear is still perfectly fine too.
