A Father’s Day Gift for the Dad Who Has Everything

By Socksupermarket

It is Father’s Day on Sunday 17th June and at socksupermarket.com we know about all the ‘boring v practical’ and ‘predictable v perfect‘ statements relating to giving socks as a gift. BUT there’s no getting away from the fact that socks are a present that people love and use.

And talking of facts….

Father’s Day is celebrated popularly on 3rd Sunday in June in many parts of the world. It is widely believed that the idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington with Sonora Smart Dodd wishing to honor her father who, following the death of her mother, raised both herself and five other children. After much rallying it was President Nixon, in 1972, who established a permanent national observance of Father’s Day.

However, some there are some scholars who believe that Father’s Day history is much older. They say that the custom of honoring dad’s on a special day is over 4,000 years old. Tracing the celebration back to the ruins of Babylon it is recorded that a young boy, called Elmesu, carved a Father’s Day message on a card made out of clay nearly 4,000 years ago. Elmesu wished his Babylonian father good health and a long life.
