There's nothing worse than feeling like you have a MILLION things you need to get done, and at the same time, you feel frozen, like you just don't have a clue where or how to get started. You have all these tasks firing at you in your brain: You've got to do this-Make sure you get this done-Don't forget to get back to this person. Holy crap. It's frightening and exhausting all at the same time. I've definitely been there (and maybe a bit too often).
I've found that when I'm feeling overwhelmed, the best thing for me to do is to start by making a list. I like to make a tangible one, so I can't accidentally delete it. Plus, I get a TON of satisfaction from physically crossing off items. Everything from the big things like submission deadlines all the way down to making sure I throw my jeans in the wash that day. I jot everything important down, and then I start with the most important or imminent thing. I focus only on that task until it's done and crossed off the list. Then it's on to the item next on the importance hierarchy.
This constantly revolving to-do list is one of the big reasons I created this metallic message board in my studio. It's shown here as a calendar, but mostly it's a catch all for all the to-do list line items dancing around in my head. It's right by the door so I can easily add or cross things off as I'm running in and out.
The star of this DIY are these cool little stand off screws that attach right to the wall, and the copper sheeting is just from the perforated metal section at the hardware store. Find my full tutorial over at Homedit!
List-making is how I keep all the plates spinning, but everyone has their own system. How do you make sense of the craziness?
