Baby cries as if in panic. When she woke up, father and mother were gone and she was alone in the boat.
Mother arrives and baby stops crying. Father was at the market selling their garden produce. Mother had to go fetch water for their houseboat.
As baby watches, mother washes the dishes…
… And then the kettles.
And then, as mother breastfeeds baby, she kindles a fire at the back of the boat so she can cook their meal. Hopefully when father arrives from the market, he brings good news that all their garden produce have been sold. And then father, mother and baby can sail back to their home village and live in a regular house. At least for a while. Until they need to come to Daru again.
