Gingerly Annie crossed the street, I watched her every step.
We sat on the park bench watching the neighbor children play.
Annie was captivated by a two year old girl on a hotwheel, "Isn't she incredible? Children are more advance these days."
A smile brought light to Annie's eyes as she sat on the edge of the bench, beaming with joy Annie pulled at my arm, "I wish I could squeeze her," she giggled, "Look at those chubby legs!"
Nobody minded, especially the children they had an audience.
Nearly an hour later we walked back home, though not as fast as the two year old on the hot wheel. Annie reeled with fondness, "They live nearby don't they?" I nodded knowing they lived next door. Once Annie was settled, I kissed her goodbye, "...See you tomorrow, call me if you need me."
Quickly, I walked back to the play area, the mother of the four little children smiled as I approached her. We have passed by each other many times while coming and going on the sidewalk by Annie's. I introduced myself, and after polite small talk, I knew I could ask her...
"Do you mind to tap on my friend Annie's window every now and then when you are with your children to say, "Hello"? That would bring my friend so much joy." I went on, "You wouldn't need to say or do anything more."
The young mother said she had often seen Annie sitting by the window and had wanted to do just that.
Autumn outside of Annie's window is going to cheerful! And that makes me well up with tears!
