Twitter and the news cycle
A few moments ago I read a blog post which described Twitter as ‘the real-time soundtrack to the biggest global moments and events’. Given that it was written by Twitter’s Vice President for marketing and communications such a bold claim is hardly surprising. As a species humankind loves to provide a commentary on its own existence and Twitter simply gives us the means to do so. Much of that is reflected in the little video below. What is reflected less there than in other years, however, is the extent to which social media connectivity not only communicates but shapes the news. In many contexts we behave differently precisely because we are better able to stay in touch with each other.
What would your ‘year on Twitter’ video contain, I wonder? (Mine would contain a small but determined owl and 24 little doors for starters)
