A book on your TBR you can’t wait to read this Summer

Spending day 10 discussing our ‘currently reading‘ books must surely have added quite a few more books to our ever-growing TBR file. So today, we are here to discuss the next book in the TBR file we can’t wait to attack this summer.

All through Summer, we shall be hopping on and off various blogs, hosting Summer Bookish Blog Hops and discussion various topics on reading and reviewing. Would you like to join us for the next Hop cycle? Join our Facebook group.

Today we are all set to check out our next book to read in our list and share it with our friends here. All of us voracious readers know that we have a TBR list big enough to last our lives, maybe even after-lives. Selecting a book to read next from the exhaustive list is an exhaustive task indeed. But then some of our favorite authors make things easy for us by enticing us with their next new release.

My next in line is a Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni book – The Forest of Enchantments. Indian mythology is an unknown territory for most of us. For those who know of it, you would know that the mythological stories favor the male race a bit too much. Ms. Divakaruni has taken it upon her to narrate the female perspective of these stories. After a narration of Mahabharata through The Palace of Illusions from Draupadi’s point of view, now she has come with ‘The Forest of Enchantments‘ which say Ramayana from Sita’s point of view. Check out the book on Goodreads by clicking on the link.

I recently got sent a review copy of The Perfect Wife by JP Delaney via Net Galley (release date 8th August 2019). I loved The Girl Before, and so can’t wait to see what else this author has to offer.

About the book:

There’s something I have to explain, my love,” he says, taking your hand in his. “That wasn’t a dream. It was an upload.”

Abbie wakes in a hospital bed with no memory of how she got there. The man by her side explains that he’s her husband. He’s a titan of the tech world, the founder of one of Silicon Valley’s most innovative startups. He tells Abbie she’s a gifted artist, a doting mother to their young son, and the perfect wife.

Five years ago, she suffered a terrible accident. Her return from the abyss is a miracle of science, a breakthrough in artificial intelligence that has taken him half a decade to achieve.

But as Abbie pieces together memories of her marriage, she begins questioning her husband’s motives – and his version of events. Can she trust him when he says he wants them to be together for ever? And what really happened to her, half a decade ago?

Um, honestly, that would have to be Notna by J. D. Cunegan. I’ve read his Jill Anderson urban fantasy/crime series, and positively adored his style–but this is a paranormal adventure, so it’s going to be a bit different–I’m anxious to know how well he does with this genre!

Here’s a blurb about the book:

History’s most peaceful race created one of its deadliest weapons.

Forged in the Living Flame by a long-extinct alien race, The Gem of Notna is the stuff of legends, on par with Pandora’s Box or the Holy Grail. But once archaeologist Dr. Jack Corbett stumbled upon the crystal deep in the Amazon, he triggered a whirlwind of events and found himself neck-deep in a centuries-old holy war. The Divine and the Underworld have been locked in a virtual stalemate for the past three hundred years, and the Gem of Notna could be the key to breaking it.

With the gem in his possession, Jack discovers a world of monsters and gods, as well as an entirely different plane of existence that watches over our own. Old grudges resurface, fallen warriors are reborn in the most violent of ways, but at the end of the day, the fate of the world may well rest in Jack’s hands.

J.D. Cunegan (Bounty, Blood Ties) introduces Notna, a supernatural fantasy epic that will leave readers flipping through the pages with every twist and turn. Grand in scale and steeped in the very comic book lore that lured Cunegan to writing in the first place, Notna proves that anyone can save the world – or die trying.

So yeah… I’m all about that!

Under Currents by Nora Roberts. It is her Summer release. About the book:
“Within the walls of a tasteful, perfectly kept house in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, young Zane Bigelow feels like a prisoner of war. Strangers―and even Zane’s own aunt across the lake―see his parents as a successful surgeon and his stylish wife, making appearances at their children’s ballet recitals and baseball games. Zane and his sister know the truth: There is something terribly wrong.

As his father’s violent, controlling rages―and his mother’s complicity―become more and more oppressive, Zane counts the years, months, days until he can escape. He looks out for little Britt, warning her Be smart. Be careful. In fear for his very life, he plays along with the insidious lie that everything is fine, while scribbling his real thoughts in a secret journal he must carefully hide away.

When one brutal, shattering night finally reveals cracks in the façade, Zane begins to understand that some people are willing to face the truth, even when it hurts. As he grows into manhood and builds a new kind of family, he will find that while the darkness of his past may always shadow him, it will also show him what is necessary for good to triumph―and give him strength to draw on when he once again must stand up and defend himself and the ones he loves…”

I’m excited to read Heloise by Mandy Hager. It’s based on the ill-fated lovers in the infamous French novel. Here’s the blurb:

What happens when the 12th century’s most famous French lovers are caught in the crossfire of factions, religious reform and blind ambition? Heloise is a determined young woman with an exceptional mind, longing to pursue learning rather than marriage or life as a cloistered nun. Her path inevitably crosses with Peter Abelard, the celebrity philosopher, theologian and master at Paris’ famed Cathedral School. When two such brilliant minds meet and engage, sparks are likely to ignite. But theirs is an impossible love. This is a time when the Gregorian Reforms are starting to bite and celibacy among the clergy and church officials is being rigorously imposed. Based on meticulous up-to-date research and the pair’s own writings, this novel offers a plausible interpretation of the known facts and a vivid imagining of the gaps in this legendary story. It shines a light on a changing world whose attitudes and politics are not so very different from our own.

Toted as “a tense, dark, and scary treat for modern fans of the traditionally strange and macabre”, The Toll by Cherie Priest promises to be a creepy read. Here’s the blurb:

State Road 177 runs along the Suwannee River, between Fargo, Georgia, and the Okefenokee Swamp. Drive that route from east to west, and you’ll cross six bridges. Take it from west to east, and you might find seven.

But you’d better hope not.

Titus and Davina Bell leave their hotel in Fargo for a second honeymoon canoeing the Okefenokee Swamp. But shortly before they reach their destination, they draw up to a halt at the edge of a rickety bridge with old stone pilings, with room for only one car . . .

When, much later, a tow-truck arrives, the driver finds Titus lying in the middle of the road, but Davina is nowhere to be found.
