A new 10,000-bed Covid-19 treatment facility is slated to open south of Delhi this week.
It will be the largest installation of Covid-19 in India.
From Sunday, 2,000 beds will be operational, while the remaining 8,000 beds will be put into service from Wednesday, according to the Delhi government.
Indian Interior Minister Amit Shah and Delhi's chief minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the site on Saturday.
"This 10,000-bed center would be a huge relief to the people of Delhi," Shah tweeted on Saturday.
The Indo-Tibetan border police have taken over the facility and will supervise its administration and operations, confirmed the Minister of the Interior.
"I applaud our courageous staff at ITBP, who would operate this Covid care facility in these difficult times. Their commitment to serve the nation and people of Delhi is unprecedented," Shah tweeted.
Delhi reported 80,188 cases of coronavirus on Sunday, including 2,558 deaths, according to the Indian Ministry of Health.
