‘9 To 5’ And ‘Tootsie’ Fame Dabney Coleman Dies At 92

Hollywood’s famous actor, Dabney Coleman, reached significant milestones in his career. He was renowned for playing mean and humorous villains and bosses who were ultimately jerks. The “9 to 5” and “Tootsie” actor died at the age of 92. 

The news of his demise was confirmed by his daughter, Quincy Coleman. The actor died on Thursday in Santa Monica at his home. Quincy confirmed that Coleman died on May 16, 2024, at 1:50 p.m.

She said in the statement given to the media,

My father crafted his time here on Earth with a curious mind, a generous heart and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity.

As he lived, he moved through this final act of his life with elegance, excellence and mastery,

The Primetime Emmy Award winner played an egotistical talk show host on NBC’s Buffalo Bill in 1983. The show ran for two seasons, which revolved around the host’s journey at a TV station in Buffalo, New York. Even though the show was highly loved by critics, it could only manage to offer 26 episodes.

Coleman received his first break, which made him earn love and praise from industry experts, in 1980. ‘9 to 5’ is considered a cult classic in the American film industry. He plays a “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” boss in the movie, which is considered one of the ‘100 Funniest American Movies of All Time.’

Furthermore, he was praised for portraying a sexist soap opera director, Ron Carlisle, in 1982’s Tootsie.

Despite being popular for his egoistic and villainous roles, Coleman did not lack versatility in his acting. The Golden Globe winner got married twice. His second wife, Jean Hale, made him the father of four children.
