Let's talk about how to calculate your salary hike in 8th Pay Commission 👇

What is the 8th Pay Commission Fitment Factor?

The fitment factor is a mathematical calculation based on your salary hike based on your previous salary. Till now the exact fitment factor has not been released by the Govt. but according to the News agency ANI, National Counseling Joint Consultative Machinery has proposed a minimum fitment factor of 2.57 or more. If this is the exact fitment factor then your salary hike will be 157% of your basic pay.

According to some social media reports, GOI is considering increasing the salary by 180% which will be a huge step once implemented.

8th Pay Commission Pay Matrix Slab

GOI is expected to introduce a revised pay matrix with the 8th Pay Commission that will define salary structures, a pay matrix based on basic pay, grade pay, and level-wise increments for employees working under the central government.

Expected Changes in the 8th CPC Pay Matrix

  1. Higher Fitment Factor – The fitment factor is expected to be revised from 2.57 (7th CPC) to 1.92 - 2.72.
  2. Revised Pay Levels – The current Level 1 to Level 18 structure will be retained as it is but salary structure will be adjusted for inflation and better pay parity.
  3. Dearness Allowance (DA) Integration – The 8th CPC may integrate 50% of DA into the basic pay. After this DA will become zero.
  4. Higher Minimum Pay – The base salary for entry-level employees may increase from ₹18,000 (7th CPC) to around ₹26,000 - ₹30,000 in 8th CPC.

How the 8th CPC Pay Matrix Will Impact Salaries

  • Higher Take-Home Salary – With increased fitment factor and DA adjustments, net pay will rise accordingly.
  • Better Pension Benefits – Since pensions are calculated based on basic pay, retirees will receive a higher post-retirement pension
  • More Competitive Pay Scale – Government salaries will be better aligned with market standards and inflation, reducing the wage gap with private sector jobs.

The official 8th Pay Commission Pay Matrix will be finalized closer to 2026, but these estimates only give us a good estimate.
