Trump’s last campaign darkly threatened “retribution.” Now we’re starting to see the horror.

Former FBI Director James Comey is a particular Trump target. Somewhat ironic, since Comey was arguably responsible for Trump’s 2016 election win — by reopening (on dubious grounds), shortly before the vote, the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation. A focus of public attention, while the FBI never revealed, before the election, its also investigating the Trump campaign. Rendering bizarre all the charges of FBI bias against Trump.

Anyhow, as president he fired Comey. Basically because Comey (properly) refused to declare loyalty and halt the FBI’s continuing investigation of Russia-Trump campaign collusion. Which, incidentally, was proven, all the “Russia hoax” rhetoric being another Trumpian big lie. Meanwhile, for a president to fire an FBI chief on such basis was a totally improper abuse of power.

And it didn’t end Trump’s vendetta against Comey — who’s now being investigated by the FBI — headed by Trumpy conspiracist whacko Kash Patel — for posting on social media a photo of seashells forming the number 8647.

How could that, you might ask, possibly constitute a crime?

Well, you see, “47” might refer to the 47th president.* And “86,” the AP reports, is slang for “throw out” or “get rid of” or “refuse service to.” But also possibly “kill,” though the AP notes it doesn’t use that meaning “due to its relative recency and sparseness of use.”

Nevertheless, on this slender basis Comey is charged with advocating a presidential assassination! By numerous regime officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem (who shot a disobedient puppy).

An actual threat against a president is properly a crime. But it’s obvious Comey posed no such threat.** Going after him, on such a ridiculous pretext, is a perversion of legal process and another blatant abuse of power. Exactly the kind of thing authoritarian regimes like Putin’s do, to “86” inconvenient people.

The true criminals here are Trump, Patel, and Noem.

* Cleveland was not two presidents, and neither is Trump. He’s actually the 44th.

** I previously criticized the government for prosecuting a guy who’d posted that he’d kill President Biden if he could. Just blowing smoke, no actual threat.
