Barnard Castle is a market town on the north bank of the River Tees, in County Durham.. The town is built around a medieval castle ruin.
The earthwork fortifications of the castle were rebuilt in stone by his successor, Bernard de Balliol I during the latter half of the 12th century, which gave the town its name. The remains of the castle are Grade I listed and the chapel in the outer ward is Grade II listed, which are now in the care of English Heritage and open to the public. Also in the town is the Bowes Museum which has an 18th-century Silver Swan automaton exhibit and paintings by Goya and El Greco.
The town broke the national news in May 2022 when a Tory twat (with a face a mother wouldn't kiss) broke his own government COVID-19 lockdown rules. The PM's chief advisor haddriven to the townwith his family while at a significant risk of having the disease himself due to contact with the infected Prime Minister. The arsehole drove there to test his eyesight to reassure his wife that he was able to drive them back to London the next day.

The ground is outside the town centre, with the Bowes Museum in view from behind the bottom goal. The pavilion is at the top end of the pitch, which houses the changing rooms and also has kitchen facilities for spectator refreshments.

This Durham Cup tie had been postponed twice, but when it finally went ahead last Saturday it was abandoned following Consett player Olly Walton breaking his Fibia and Tibia. Barnard Castle were 2-0 up early in the second half when that match was halted, so naturally there was a repeat of last week’s events, with a first half penalty and a goal straight from the second-half restart, once more putting Barney two goals up and on their way to the Minor Cup semi-finals. The home team were worthy winners and the result could have been more convincing but for some fantastic saves from Luke Spoor in the Consett goal.
