This modern staircase in a Connecticut vacation home features ash risers on a single stringer. "It was a great opportunity with the [adjacent] massive window to see through the stair," architect Lisa Gray says. "There are only two elements: a railing and a steel stringer that has brackets that the treads fit into. That’s all prefabricated by a steel shop. The treads themselves are also prefabricated by a wood shop. Once you have these two different elements, the installation is really fast."
