Gboard is one of the most popular keyboards for sure, as it comes pre-installed on many smartphones and clearly looks like one of the smartest and most comfortable. However, few people know about its hidden features, since they are not indicated anywhere by the developers - at best, users stumble upon them by accident. This article contains just such options: some of them are known to experienced users, but some of them will surely turn out to be a surprise. All of them greatly simplify typing, and this is noticeable in practice - you just need to get used to it.
Moving cursor
If you need to quickly edit the already written text, it is not necessary to move the cursor with your finger over the characters themselves - you can simply swipe on the "Space". True, this function only works left and right, which is why it will be problematic to jump to other lines.
Fast Deletion
If you want to quickly delete text, then it is not necessary to hold down the delete button - just swipe left from it until the desired moment and release your finger. The selection of words for subsequent deletion will move until there is enough space for a swipe across the screen - the cursor will jump to the top lines.
If you accidentally erase the excess, all deleted words can be returned - they will appear above the keyboard.
Quick entry of special characters and uppercase letters
If you swipe your finger from the Shift icon (bottom left arrow) to a specific letter, it will become large. So activating capitalization is faster than pressing Shift and then pressing the desired letter.
Similarly, you can quickly select characters and numbers, just swipe from the "? 123" button - when you release your finger, the familiar alphabetic keyboard will open (the character set will close automatically).
Caps Lock for already written text
If you select a word and press Shift, its first letter will be capitalized. If you click again, all the letters will become large. The same works when selecting a section of text - the first letters of all words will become uppercase or all selected letters will become uppercase.
Deleting a Suggested Word
If Gboard often suggests a word that you would never use (for example, some kind of overly literary or Old Russian, or you added it by mistake), you can remove it from the list of suggestions - in this case, some other one will take its place, which may be more useful. To erase a word from the list of suggestions, just drag it up (when it appears) and bring it to the trash icon.
Quick entry of fractions
If you hold your finger on the number button, the suggested symbols of the most popular fractions will appear in the hint menu. Of course, fractions can also be written with a slash (/), but a single character looks more impressive.
One-handed input mode and floating keyboard
Modern smartphones are sometimes too wide to comfortably type text while holding them with one hand. Fortunately, Gboard has a one-handed mode that pulls the keyboard to one of the sides. To do this, open the keyboard menu through the arrow at the top left, click on the three dots and select "Pin Mode".
Also in this three-dot menu, you can activate the floating keyboard - just select "Floating mode". You can move such a keyboard around the screen by the strip at the bottom, you can also change its size. To return to the usual mode, the floating panel must be attached to the bottom of the screen.
