7 Films for New Year’s Eve

Posted on the 31 December 2015 by Caz @LetsGoToTheMov7

As 2015 is coming to a close and we are about to start 2016 I thought the perfect way to do that was to take a look back in the film world at films which have fantastic New Year’s Eve scenes or moments. Might be a little bit strange considering I am not really a very big fan of New Year in all honesty and don’t have any plans myself for tonight. It probably doesn’t help that 2015 has been a truly awful year for me, but the less said about that the better. So what better way than to disappear into the world of film and see characters have some great and maybe interesting New Year’s Eve moments?

7 Films for New Year’s Eve

I do enjoy a good rendition of Auld Lang Syne though in all honesty and you will see that by some of the choices below!

Sunset Boulevard (1950) Review

I just watched this film for the first time a few days ago so fits perfectly that the absolutely crazy former movie star should be on the list with the party on New Year’s Eve with no other guest in attendance, starting to show the cracks of her instability.

The Apartment (1960) Review

A film which has quite a few scenes and moments around Christmas also then slips into New Year when Fran realises that she might have just made a mistake, leading to a very scary moment in the scene as well. I remember being totally shocked and scared myself when first watching this film to what had happened to Baxter.

When Harry Met Sally (1989) Review

One of my all time favorite films! Which actually has few different New Year’s Eve scenes but the last one is the only one that really matters isn’t it? I mean come on he has realised that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her and he wants that to start as soon as possible. It took them a long time to get to that moment but the main thing is they certainly got there in the end.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Poor Forrest never really seemed to have much look when it came to well anything, not the perfect start to a New Year for him either?

Sex and the City (2008) Review

Yes the films of the fantastic TV series are no where as good but I still have a soft spot for them and how good showing friendship after difficult times as Carrie is rushing across New York City to make it to her best friends to make sure they aren’t alone as one year finishes and the next begins. I have always loved this version of Auld Lang Syne because obviously I have the soundtrack as well.

New Year’s Eve (2011) Review

I know this film will have a lot of criticism but it does have plenty of different stories which should be able to hit someone on how their life is on New Year’s Eve surely? Ok but it has a very good cast and does have some lovely moments and Jon Bon Jovi is in it so that is perfect for me, yes number 1 Bon Jovi fan right here. Not forgetting from Glee fame and fantastic singer Lea Michele, so why not enjoy her rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

A Long Way Down (2014) Review

A rather strange film in all honesty from last year about four people who meet on top of a building ready to kill themselves as the New Year is about to start, something which I think is quite important though as surely it could be a time when people feel extra lonely? It’s by no means the greatest film but it did have a little bit of a charm.

I’d like to think that I have picked a good range of films, any others you would have put on the list?
