Even before I got to 60 Thompson, I was charmed by its Soho location, where I found myself walking down a quiet residential street to get there. At the door, you can turn left to go to Kittichai, the house restaurant serving Thai dishes. I have to admit, the cocktails (the one with lychee juice and lemongrass is a favorite) were more impressive than the food, but the atmosphere was divine. I liked the fish tank in a birdcage and the pond in the dining area.
To the right is the hotel. I have to admit, I was slightly confused upon stepping into the quiet and tiny foyer. Turns out, all the action is up the stairs, where the reception and waiting areas are. So I headed up there, and was greeted by huge windows, which brought so much light in and allowed a great view of the street. Shades of gray and black complimented the wooden accents and furnishings.
If you have a chance to stay here, the Thompson Loft is the way to go, especially for a honeymoon. When you enter, you are immediately drawn forward to the floor-to-ceiling windows and doors that take you to your private balcony. The furnishings are modern and simple, making for a clean space. I walked up the wooden steps which features uplighting, and was charmed by the second floor, where a great big bed invites you. You will find Keihl’s amenities in the master bath, which is outfitted in marble tiles and mosaic floors. There is a little cove in front of the bed, where there are big candles for the perfect lighting on a romantic evening. You can then walk out to your private patio, where you can sit and relax under the stars.
