This summer holiday impress your friends and family by throwing something unexpected on the grill. Here are 6 fun ideas to try:
- Watermelon – Rind on or off, watermelon is easy to grill when cut thick enough.Cut into 1 1/4 inch (or thicker) slices and let drain on towels over a bowl or pan for 20-30 minutes. Then brush with olive oil, sprinkle on a bit of salt and grill until you see grill marks. For more ideas on how to grill watermelon see below.
- Cake – (This one excites me). Thick, dense cake like pound cake is best for this one. Spread butter or oil on both sides well, and grill until well toasted. For more cake grilling recipes see below.

Grilled Pound Cake with Espresso Chocolate Sauce - Peaches – The sugar in this fruit almost carmelizes when it’s grilled and it tastes amazing! Brush with butter and/or oil, halve and place on grill face down until grill marks appear. Check out the grilled peach recipes below.
How to Grill Peaches
Grilled Peaches with Cinnamon Sugar Butter - Avocado – Another thick fruit (Yes it’s a fruit), this is a great way to add more flavor to salads or burgers. Just brush with olive oil and lime juice and grill away! (Just make sure you’re avocado’s aren’t over ripe otherwise they’ll fall apart on the grill!) See grilled avocado recipes below.
- Pizza – If you make your own dough this can work out well. Just brush with oil after kneading and grill until toasted. Then top with your favorite pizza sauce, cheese and veggies for a fresh and simple dinner! For more grilled pizza recipes check out the links below.
- Strawberries – Yup. Skewer those bad boys and brush with oil and throw them pon the grill. Just stay close, and turn them often, you don’t want them to fall apart, but you do want to release the flavor and cook off a bit of the sugar.
