Hello All,As you all must have noticed my recent craze of testing Fortune Rice Bran Health Oil…Well today is the last test...Yes you heard it right :)
After a lot of cooking tests and taste comparisons I have finally reached my conclusion about the Fortune Rice Bran Health Oil…Want to know what I think??
Let’s begin from the beginning of my 2 week long testing phase.Test 1- The decades old Family Recipe Test. Desi Ghee Vs Rice Bran Health OilI tested the Oil with my 2 decade old family recipe of Mutton Rogan Josh (Recipe here). The original recipe calls for desi ghee instead of oil. However, since I was testing, I wanted to find out how much of a difference it would make if I use Rice Bran oil instead of Desi Ghee. And it passed the taste test with flying colors, I won’t say that the dish tasted exactly the same but the dish was still extremely rich, flavorsome and much lighter on the stomach!! Test 2- The Deep Fry Test. Canola Vs Rice Bran Health OilSince low absorption was one of the 10 benefits of Fortune Rice Bran Health Oil, I thought making a dish which requires deep frying would be the best test and yet again the Oil passed the test with flying colors, Not only the Spinach fritters(Recipe Here) absorbed lesser oil they were also crispier and lighter than before.Test 3- The Bake Test. Olive Oil Vs Rice Bran Health Oil I always use olive oil while baking, be it snacks or main course. But I had to use Rice Bran Health Oil to see if it passed the baking test or not? I used the same recipe for the mushrooms which I always use and only replaced the olive oil with rice bran oil, I kept the quantity of oil same i.e. just 1 teaspoon per 250 gms. And again, this oil surprised me with the results; the mushrooms(Recipe Here) came out beautifully succulent like never before!! Test 4- The French Toast Test. Butter Vs Rice Bran Health OilI only eat French toasts made in butter, but then again I replaced the butter with Rice Bran Oil and there was hardly any difference in the taste J In fact the French toasts were much lighter and again there was much less oil absorption..Now do I need to say again that Rice Bran Health Oil came out with flying colors…Test 5- The Fish Test. Mustard Oil Vs Rice Bran Health OilMy mother uses only mustard oil when it comes to cooking fish, she loves the pungent flavor that the mustard oil lends to the whole taste of the fish. But on my request, this time she used Rice bran oil and was quite happy with the results and later when I asked if she would switch to rice bran oil for her fish dishes, she happily agreed looking at the health benefits and the good outcome of her recipe JTest 6- The Everyday Food Test. Refined Oil Vs Rice Bran Health OilRecipe: Punjabi Besan Gatte (one of my mother’s signature dishes in everyday meals)Ingredients:2 cups Gram flour (besan),3 Tomatoes medium size (finely chopped), 2 Onion medium size (finely chopped), 2 Green chilies (finely chopped), 1 tbsp: Ginger and garlic paste, ½ tbsp Turmeric powder, ¼ tbsp: Red chili powder, ¼ tbsp: Coriander powder, a pinch of Asafoetida, 1 tbsp Cumin seeds, ½ tbsp: Carom (Ajwain) seeds,1 bay leaf, ¼ tbsp: Gram masala, Fortune Rice Bran Health Oil, Salt to taste, Water.Method:1. Mix well besan, 2 green chillies, carom seeds, 1/8 tbsp red chili powder and 1 tbsp oil. Now add water into besan to make dough.2. Now start rolling out the dough balls in seekh kebab shapes and Put it into boiling water and boil for 10 minutes3. Take out the water separately and cut the besan seekhs into small pieces and keep aside. (Besan seekhs are also called 'gatte'.)4. Heat oil, add asafetida, cumin seeds, bay leaf and 2 green chilies, stir-fry till well browned.5. Add ginger garlic paste and add chopped onion, heat for 3 minutes. Add chopped tomatoes and cook for 6 to 7 minutes minutes till tomatoes start leaving the oil..6. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt, garam masala and 1.5 cup gatte boiled water and boil for 5 minutes.7. Put gatte into gravy and boil for 3 minutes (Heat until gravy is thick). Serve hot with Parantha! As you can see the final test was on the everyday lunch and dinner dishes for which I use Vegetable Refined Oil. I tried and tested the oil in everyday cooking and was again surprised to see that the day to day dishes came out as nice as they used to with refined oil, so there was no difference in the taste at all. The only difference was the quantity being used; even my mother noticed that rice bran oil was consumed less in cooking unlike other oils, which meant even a 1ltr pack lasted for more than 2 weeks!! In these 2 weeks I was also testing the health benefits that are mentioned on the package and yes I felt a little different I was more active than before, Daddy’s cholesterol came normal in the monthly test, I didn’t fell sick even in the season change and even after eating and testing like maniacs I didn’t gain any weight J So, after a stringent 2 week long testing; I can happily say that Fortune Rice Bran Health Oil stands tall on all of its claims and is truly a healthy oil to switch too!!P.s All the links to the recipes given above were created for this contest. This post is a part of Healthy & Tasty Recipe Contest with Fortune Rice Bran Health Oil & BlogAdda.com
