OnePlus 6 is one of the most eagerly awaited flagship smartphones of the year. It was launched in May 2018 in India. And it quickly set a record by registering INR 100 crores sales within the first 10 minutes of its availability on oneplus.in and amazon.in. In fact, OnePlus 6 has been declared the highest ever revenue-grossing smartphone on Amazon.in at launch.

The biggest reason behind the popularity of OnePlus devices is that they deliver an amazing set of specifications at a price much less than other major flagships. And in that respect, OnePlus 6 does not disappoint.

OnePlus 6 devices come with 2.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor with an option of 6GB and 8GB RAM. Briefly speaking, this easily translates into speed. OnePlus 6 is available in 3 variants 6GB RAM+64GB, 8GB RAM + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB Marvels Avengers limited edition. In the camera department, OnePlus 6 is equipped with 16MP front camera and 16MP and 20MP dual rear camera with slow motion video recording. All this is available at a highly competitive price starting from Rs.34,999.

So, let's check out the major highlights of OnePlus 6

1. Power and Speed:

Keeping up with its tag line ' THE SPEED YOU NEED ' OnePlus 6 promises to give its users a faster and smoother experience. With QUALCOMM snapdragon 845 Octa-core processor (4×2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver) coupled with Adreno 630 GPU, OnePlus 6 should perform better and more efficiently than its predecessor 5T.

With up to 8GB of RAM, the OnePlus 6 performs swiftly at switching between multiple apps running at the same time. This smartphone has power enough to deliver lag-free multi-tasking. Its dual-lane storage, based on UFS 2.1, should also help in faster app loading and read/write speeds.

OnePlus 6 has the fingerprint sensor at the back. Other sensors are light sensor, proximity sensor, accelerometer, compass, gyroscope.

The smartphone runs on OxygenOS which is based on Android v8.0 (Oreo). It claims to offer a refined, faster, cleaner, and more customizable Android experience.

2. Bold All-Glass Design

With this latest flagship, OnePlus has experimented with glass to deliver a bold and innovative all-glass design. This does not just make the device look more attractive, it also facilitates in better transmission of radio waves. As per OnePlus, due to this design, users can enjoy up to 1 gigabit of download speed. The device has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and the back for strength. However, some users might worry about the durability of an all-glass smartphone.

3. Display:

OnePlus 6 comes with a 6.28 inch Full Optic AMOLED 19:9 display with a resolution of 1800 by 2200 pixels and 402 ppi density. This is the largest screen ever used in a OnePlus device and offers an impressive viewing experience to the users.

Like the iPhone X, OnePlus 6 also has a Notch design. But it takes this design element a step ahead by offering a much smaller notch and hence giving more screen space.

4. Sleek & Stylish:

The phone measures 155.70*75.40*7.75 and weighs 177gm. It will be available in 3 colors: Midnight Black, Mirror Black and Silk White. For the Mirror Black and Midnight Black variants, OnePlus has embedded a thin layer of film underneath the glass. This helps in creating a sense of depth and adds to the visual appeal of the device. In the Midnight Black variants, jagged texture is also etched onto the film to produce a subtle S-shaped line when light reflects from the phone. The beauty of the limited-edition Silk White variant is enhanced by using pearl powder that creates a subtle shimmering effect.

The back panel of these devices do look stylish. But they can be a fingerprint magnet, especially the darker colours.

5. Camera:

OnePlus 6 boasts of dual rear camera of 16 + 20 megapixel and 16 megapixel front camera. It also supports Face Detection, High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging and dual LED flash. It also has a feature of slow motion video recording with 720 frames/sec. OnePlus 6 also supports 4k full HD video recording at 1080 pixels.

In my experience, although the picture quality delivered by the front camera seems to be better with more light and natural colours, but back camera gives a little sense of artificiality in its portrait mode.

6. Battery with DASH Charging:

OnePlus 6 is powered with a non-removable 3300 MaH battery and comes with DASH charging. DASH charging has been a key selling point of OnePlus and it guarantees a half day's battery in 30 minutes of charge.

Some disappointments:

  • The phone is only splash proof and not waterproof
  • Wireless charging not available
  • Average camera quality

Pricing and availability of OnePlus 6:

OnePlus 6 devices are available at and at Croma stores. 3 variants of OnePlus 6 are available in India. The prices of these OnePlus 6 variants are:

  • Rs.34,999 for 6+64GB
