This week I interview Prince Lilly, who designed some beautiful dresses for Christa Vi's olympic performances. Her bespoke and one-off vintage inspired dresses are so sweet, here's what she had to say...
What's currently on your playlist? I am a massive fan of story telling vocalist's like Nouvelle Vague, Bjork, Kate Bush, Bat For Lashes, Sons Between Guns and The Doors, with my newest addition being the lovely Christa Vi. Also since living in New Zealand I couldn't live without the sounds of Trinity Roots, Fat Freddies Drop, Samuella Dub and Pheonix Foundation. I need a good eclectic shuffle to get me through the day.
What's your inspiration as a designer? and how do you decide what patterns to choose on your fabrics?I am very classic in my pattern design and my largest aim is to always flatter the female curves and bring out a ladies most favourable assets. My designs are very simplistic, and come to life with the vibrant pieces of printed fabrics I come across on my travels. I subconsciously take little snips of inspiration from different eras, cultures, amazing people and situations, which is why every dress is uniquely created and holds a little piece of me within it.
If you were a biscuit what would you be? I would definitely be a Rocky Road, as I'm mostly soft, sweet and a bit nutty, but I will harden up and get crunchy if you put me in the fridge for too long.
Thanks for the quick chat Prince Lilly, love your dresses. Bo xx
