Wyoming is a state in the Mountain West sub-region of the Western United States. The tenth-largest state by area, it is also the least crowded and least thickly populated state in the bordering United States.
Wyoming is lined by Montana toward the north and northwest, South Dakota and Nebraska toward the east, Idaho toward the west, Utah toward the southwest, and Colorado toward the south. Its population was 576,851 in the 2020 United States statistics, making it the least populated U.S. state. The state capital and the most crowded city is Cheyenne, which had an estimated population of 63,957 in 2018.
Wyoming’s western half is covered generally by the ranges and rangelands of the Rocky Mountains, while the eastern half of the state is a high-elevation prairie called the High Plains.
