Sometimes getting through a day, or a task, is a bit like joining the dots on a kids dot-to-dot picture. It can be hard to see where you are while you’re immersed in it but when you finally get to the end you see you have created something awesome, or achieved a goal, however big or small. Here are five tips to help you get through the joining of the dots.
1. Make a list
Writing a list helps articulate the tangible steps you need to take to reach your end goal, plus you get the satisfaction of ticking things off as you work through it. Additionally, jotting things down on paper clears up space in your mind to get on with the task in hand.
2. Start with the hard part
Starting with the most daunting part of a task is the best way of ensuring you complete it. Plus you can then reward yourself by undertaking the more simple steps.
3. Ask for help
If you find that something is becoming very time consuming then maybe you are not doing it the best way. Save yourself precious time and energy by asking a friend (or finding one) for advice. You might learn a lot more than you expect.
4. Take a break
Take a break if you need it but make sure you decide when you will return to the task at hand, and stick to it! Try not to get sidetracked. Turn off your phone if you know you will be tempted to check it every five minutes when you get back on task.
5. Sing!
There really is nothing like whistling while you work to pep you up, get the brain moving and put a smile on your face.
