5 Travel Destinations to Make Your Budget Go Further in 20193 min read

Traveling can become expensive rather quickly. The flight and hotel room are often just the start. When you account for food, tours and other things to do, you can find yourself breaking your budget in no time.

But you don't have to go into debt to see the world. You just need to know where to go.

If you're looking to take an exciting trip but you have a tight budget you need to stick to, here are the top destinations you should consider.

1. Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is one of my favorite travel destinations. Not only does the city look like it's pulled straight from a storybook, but it also boasts having beer cheaper than water. Don't go too crazy; after all, this is Healthy Travel Blog.

The city also has dozens of sights to see that don't cost a dime. Take a stroll along the river and across the Charles Bridge, walk around the Prague Castle, or just wander through the cobblestone streets.

2. Split, Croatia

Split is one of the top port cities in Croatia. It's less touristy than the country's capital Dubrovnik, meaning you won't have to fork over a premium for tours or food.

Split is also a great place to start an island hopping adventure. Island hopping in Croatia sounds expensive, but there are dozens of tours, boats and even Uber boats that can help you get from island to island affordably.

3. Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia

When done correctly, Bali can be an incredibly cheap vacation. While the flight can be costly, food, accommodations, tours and transportation are all very inexpensive once you make it to the island.

Uluwatu is the perfect location if you're looking for an affordable beach destination. Explore the beaches, caves, and even interact with the monkeys. If you need a bit more rest and relaxation, visit one of the affordable spas.

4. Chiang Mai, Thailand

Thailand is another destination you can visit on a tight budget, particularly Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is home to some amazing street food you can get for only a couple of dollars--meaning you won't need to break the bank to experience some of the best pad thai out there (just make sure to follow our tips for avoiding food poisoning in Southeast Asia).

Chiang Mai also has dozens of popular temples, hiking locations and more to allow you to get your sight-seeing fix for free or almost no cost. Walk around Old City or browse the various markets.

5. Bogota, Colombia

If you're looking for a South American destination that won't break your budget, Bogota, Colombia is just the destination for you. Visit the Plaza de Mercado de Paloquemao market for fresh flowers and produce or take a trip to the top of Mount Monserrate for incredible views of the city.

Bogota also offers beautiful architecture and scenery, meaning just wandering through the neighborhoods is worth the trip. La Candelaria is full of colorful buildings and rich history, or check out the Gold Museum which offers free entry on Sundays.

Traveling on a budget shouldn't limit your experiences--you just need to be smart about the destinations you choose. If you're short on cash or you're just looking to save, check out any of these five destinations on your next vacation.
