Have you ever had a daunting job on your “To-Do” list that was weighing on your mind just because the sheer magnitude of the undertaking was almost more than you could bear to think about; like cleaning out a super cluttered and messy garage for instance? Undoubtedly though, as soon as you finished the task you felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment, pride, and confidence for having gotten it done. Am I right? I think many look at their health and fitness and sometimes feel the same way, like maybe they are too far gone at this point, and the intimidating idea of what it would take to get back on track is more than they can even decipher. However, by doing these five things every day that your body is begging you to do (even if you aren’t perfect) will give you that feeling of accomplishment, pride, and self confidence on a daily basis.
- Breath a Little Harder: I don’t just mean walking from your car into work and from work to your car, I mean actually getting up and moving to the point where you are breathing at a much faster rate than normal and your body is actually producing sweat. Your body craves this not only as a way to maintain your lung capacity, but it works hand in hand as a way to improve your cardiovascular system as a whole.
- Pump Your Heart Muscle: By engaging in some type of cardio activity (i.e. walking, jogging, aerobics, biking, swimming, hiking, etc.) at least 3 days a week for 30-45 minutes, you can really do your heart muscle a favor, a favor that your heart will pay forward to your arteries, your lungs, your energy level, your brain, your mood, and even your health as whole decreasing your odds of developing many lifestyle diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, many types of cancer, and the list goes on and on.
- Flex Your Muscles More: I wish standing in front of the mirror and striking an Arnold Schwarzenegger-type pose were enough, but you probably should take it a step further. Engaging in some type of strength training routine will help not only with muscle strength and muscle tone, but with balance, weight loss, bone density maintenance, and injury prevention. - Eat a Little Healthier: When it comes to food, people just need to be reasonable. A well-balanced diet will get you where you need to be. Don’t completely deprive yourself of your favorites, but indulge in moderation filling most of your allotted calories with healthy foods that are full of vitamins and minerals that will increase health and wellness and keep your body operating on all cylinders.
- Go to Bed Earlier: Never underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night will give you the energy to face life’s challenges, endure a workout, and give you clear mind for a fresh perspective on the new day. Not to mention, many people eat when they are tired, or late at night when they are watching TV. Do your body a favor and just turn everything off and go to bed!
Just like completing a big project, accomplishing these five things on a daily basis will give you a sense of pride, accomplishment, and you will see your self-confidence shoot through the roof! Don’t give into your brain telling you are too tired, too busy, too old, too cool, or that you are invincible from any negatives that will result from ignoring a begging body. Just get out there and make it happen. You won’t regret it!
