5 Things to do today in Mayfair

Emyr Thomas, founder of London-based concierge service and luxury travel advisors Bon Vivant, shares his top tips for 5 things to do in London’s most prestigious post code.

1. Spend a night at The Connaught, Mayfair

Immerse yourself in grandeur at Mayfair’s esteemed Connaught Hotel. Combining traditional English elegance with a contemporary feel the Connaught has it all, from fine dining, courtesy of 2 Michelin starred chef Hélène Darroze, to two of the best bars in London to pure tranquillity at the Aman spa.

Splash out on the Penthouse Apartment Suite to really enjoy the height of Mayfair luxury, which comes with stunning views over the capital and over 3,000 square feet.

2. Drink Champagne at the Fumoir, Claridge’s

Add a touch of 1930s glamour to your evening with a visit to the Fumoir at Claridge’s for a glass of Champagne. Nestled behind an unassuming Lalique panelled door, the Fumoir is one of Mayfair’s best-kept secrets. The stylish interior is a gorgeous combination of rich aubergine colours, leather seating, low crystal lighting and vintage photographs.

3. Explore Mount Street, Mayfair

Take a stroll down the prestigious Mount Street, home to Scott’s, one of Mayfair’s best-loved restaurants, along with many luxury high-end boutiques such as Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin and Balenciaga.

Its location in the heart of Mayfair really has attracted the cream of the crop when it comes to fashion, food, wine and art galleries. Make sure you explore the beautifully maintained Mount Street Gardens, just off Mount Street before the Maison Goyard boutique.

4. Afternoon Tea at Sotheby’s Café

Those looking to indulge in the English tradition of afternoon tea are spoilt for choice in Mayfair with many of the prestigious hotels’ offerings. However, if you are looking for a slightly unusual setting you can’t go wrong with Sotheby’s Café. Located on the renowned New Bond Street, inside the famous auction house Sotheby’s Café is small, elegant and pleasingly good value.

5. Dine at Gymkhana, Mayfair

Launched last year on Albemarle Street, Gymkhana is inspired by the Colonial Indian Gymkhana clubs, reflected in its decidedly imperial décor of dark woods, marble, ceiling fans and black and white photographs. Diners are treated to high-end traditional Indian food that includes Kebabs, Tikkas, Game and Chops, Curry and Biryani and Sabzi.
