5 Things To Do In Norway

5 things to do in Norway

1. I begin my day by waking up in a small, wooden cabin in Nærsnes, Norway. Nærsnes is a lilliputian village, about an hour away from Norway’s capital city Oslo. The mornings are very quiet here in winter, with the snow absorbing most sounds.

2. Before doing anything else, I head down to the shore of the Oslofjord, a two minute walk from my cabin door. The air is always wonderfully crisp and clean. If it’s a clear day, I can see right across the fjord to Oslo.

3. For breakfast, I treat myself to lefse, a traditional Norwegian flatbread. My favorite is Tykklefse med kanel (thick lefse with cinnamon) which can be found in all Norwegian grocery stores. It consists of two pieces of lefse, sandwiched together with sweet cinnamon butter. It’s absolutely divine and extremely filling.

4. It’s important for me to squeeze a walk into my daily routine. So, for an hour or two, I head up into the surrounding forest. It’s crucial to make the most of the light hours during winter. Walking in the forest ensures I’m refreshed, and prepares me for the working day. I always take my camera with me on hikes. The landscape is in a constant state of change, and there’s something new to capture every day.

5. It gets very cold very quickly here, so I gather logs in from outside, and build up a fire in the wood burner. There’s something really satisfying about building a fire from scratch. With that done, I sit down to work on my Destination Norway blog, and put down the bones for a new poem, all the while trying not to be distracted by the view through the window.

Thank you Katie for this.
