Avalanches and other hazardous conditions are a fact of life in the Austrian village of Lech, which is why Marcell Strolz and Uli Alber's home on the edge of the slopes is designed to withstand the forceful blows of sliding snow. “A series of sliding wooden shutters protects the building, as does specially strengthened glass around the kitchen," explains Strolz.
