Engine oil

As with any engine that uses oil, it is important to check and change the oil frequently. It is recommended by the experts to change your mower's engine oil at the beginning of the lawn care season but if you have not done this so far it's never too late.

It is also necessary to check your engine oil level regularly so that you make sure that you have the proper amount of engine oil in the motor of the lawnmower.

You can change the engine oil by following these steps:-

  • First, turn on the lawn mower for a while to get the engine run a little. By doing this the oil will flow out easily to empty the oil tank.
  • Tip the lawnmower at one side and drain the old engine oil completely.
  • Now, tip the mower back down, and pour the new engine oil through the oil tube. Always use good quality engine oil for your lawnmower.
  • Now, check the amount of engine oil by using a dipstick. Look carefully, because it is a bit hard to see new oil on a dipstick as it is lighter in color.

Air Filters

Air filters are the thing that you probably don't think about too often. However, they are an important aspect of the motor and support it to run efficiently.

With the regular use of lawnmower in the mowing season, the air filters can become dusty and dirty, so make sure to check the filter every once in a while. Most motors' air filters are very easy to change and they are also fairly inexpensive. So, if your motors' filter starts to get dirty, it is a good idea to replace it with a new one.

Lawn Mower Blades

Maintaining your lawnmower blades and keeping them sharp is another very important aspect of maintaining your mower. It does not matter, whether you sharpen the blades at home or send them to the local place like a hardware store in your area that sharpens the blades. The most important thing is to keep the blades sharp so you can cut the grass as efficiently as possible.

Most homeowners prefer to sharpen the mower blades at home by using an angle grinder or a filer to strengthen the blades. These two ways of sharpening are super easy but a little practice is required. By sharpening blades at home you can also save your money as well.

Most crucial thing while sharpening the blade is to conserve the original blade angle. After you have sharpened your mowers' blade, it is a good idea to use a balancing tool to check whether the sharpening is done correctly or not. If one side seems to be heavier than the other, then file or grind off some more metal from that side until the blade is completely balanced.

Mower Deck

It is compulsory to scrape the underside of the lawn mower deck most often. This is because when the underside of your deck is clean and free of the bunch of grass build-up, it allows the mower to create more suction as possible. The lawnmower will be able to bring the grass up and cut it off nicely by keeping the mower deck clean.
