Having a great evening routine can really transform so many things, particularly your well-being and your sleeping patterns. So, if you're not sure where to start with your evening routine, we've got some hints and tips to help you get started and fall in love with your evenings!
Yoga Mat
Your first essential to create the perfect evening routine is a yoga mat. Although you won't be doing actual yoga (unless of course you want to), but you can put some comfy clothing on when you get in from work, light a candle and get your yoga mat out and then have a really good stretch. This will help you to unwind for your day and to differentiate between your working day and your evening. You can follow guided stretching videos online, or you can just go with the flow and focus on areas you feel like need to be relaxed or stretched. You can also use this opportunity to work on slowing down your breathing through meditation, a practice that can bring you so much calm, peace and balance. Or, perhaps use this as an impromptu date night idea with your partner so you can both relax together. This is a great way to start your evening!
A Soothing Facemask
Once you have done your stretching, it's time to fully start unwinding, with a face mask. Choose something really soothing, such as an oat face mask or a clay face mask to really give your skin some TLC after a long day, especially if you live in a city where there will be lots of fumes. Give your face a really good wash, then put your facemask on and get ready to chill!
Chill Time Essentials
Now your facemask is on, it's time for you to have a really good chill, whether that's sitting down with a book for a while, doing some research, reading a magazine or listening to some music. There are a couple of things you need here to really help you unwind; a cup of chamomile tea and a weighted blanket.
First we have a cup of chamomile tea, which is great before you go to bed as it contains fantastic antioxidants that help to promote sleepiness in the brain. You should get your tea ready around an hour before you go to bed to get the most out of it in terms of the benefits to help you sleep.
Whilst you enjoy your cup of tea, make sure to get out your weighted blankets. Weighted blankets are fantastic for your wellbeing, as they help to reduce the stress hormone cortisol and also increase the levels of melatonin which is the hormone that helps you sleep. If there is any part of you still feeling stressed, the effects of a weighted blanket can really help to make a difference to how you feel.
Lavender Pillow Spray
Now that you're fully relaxed and ready for bed, use some lavendary pillow spray. Put a gentle mist on your pillow about 15 minutes before you get into bed and not only will you have a delicious waft when you get into bed, but lavender has also been found to help people sleep. Some people really don't like lavender, so you could use a eucalyptus scent instead. Make sure that you get an organic lavender pillow spray rather than a cheap one, so you know that all of the ingredients are natural and will benefit you.
Final Thoughts
You may not be able to stick to the same routine every night, which is fine, but having a routine that you can keep going back to works wonders for most people. Try your best and find a routine that works for you!
