Transformers will likely plummet this weekend, given the poor reviews. But with this being a holiday weekend, a strong 40M is not unlikely, and not all that bad.
2) Tammy- 30M Weekend, 40M 5 Day Weekend, 40M Total
Melissa McCarthy opened the so-so reviewed Identity Thief to 34M in February, and while Jason Bateman was a stronger co-star than Susan Sarandon, McCarthy’s star has only risen since then, and there’s more money to be had in the summer. Most people believe the film is headed for a 25M weekend, I think it’ll surprise and rake in 30M.
3) Deliver Us From Evil- 18M Weekend, 24M 5 Day Weekend, 22M Total
The horror audiences haven’t been served a dish in a while, and this “based on a true story” Conjuring knock-off might do OK on opening weekend as a result. Eric Bana adds a bit of legitimacy to the project. There really isn’t even another horror film in release, and the last two horror entries (Oculus and The Quiet Ones) both bombed.
4) Earth To Echo- 15M Weekend, 20M 5 Day Weekend, 20M Total
Sitting at the borderline 60% mark on Rotten Tomatoes is the family friendly entry (and so-called ET knockoff) Earth To Echo. With How To Train Your Dragon 2 not satisfying family audiences, Earth To Echo might snap up some of that business. This film is star-free though, with the most recognizable face being Astro from The X-Factor.
