With the excess of Christmas behind us and a new year in full swing, many of us will be looking for ways to kick 2018 into gear – and what better place to start than by sprucing up the heart of your home: the kitchen? Whether you’re a lover of neutral shades or looking for a burst of colour, in today’s post, we’re serving up style inspiration with some of this year’s hottest interior design trends when it comes to kitchen color schemes.

1. The jewel in the crown

Kitchen style tips and inspiration. Update your white kitchen with a splash of color like this rich jewel emerald shade.

All-white interiors have been a mainstay of modern kitchen design in recent years, but this year it’s all about adding color to everyday spaces. From emerald greens and ruby reds to deep purples and bright blues, jewel tones are proving to be a go-to choice for bold kitchen color schemes in 2018 – creating a luxurious and opulent finish.

Whether you embrace the trend with jewel-coloured accents or go bold with deep, rich hues for cabinets, walls and worktops, adding some jewel-inspired style is sure to give your kitchen a fabulous feel.

2. Bright and beautiful pigments

Along a similar theme, we’re going to be seeing more unconventional bright and beautiful colours entering kitchens in the year ahead – bringing a much more vibrant and fun vibe (think burnt orange, cactus green and peacock blue, to name a few). Kitting your kitchen out in bold, striking pigments is guaranteed to bring your home’s interior bang up-to-date in 2018. From all-blue kitchen units and worktops to burnt orange splashbacks, paired with neutral whites and creams, these tones will speak for themselves.

3. Earthy neutrals

If powerful pigments aren’t to your taste, you won’t be disappointed with this year’s selection of neutral tones, such as soft sage. Offering a touch of color with a more subtle approach, this soft green shade with gray undertones is set to replace the usual white, beige and stone – bringing warmth and character to kitchens. Pairing soft sage with rich creams and wood lends a beautifully organic feel that’s far from bland. Alternatively, you can add a splash of understated color using other popular shades such as mustard yellow, olive and jade.

4. Bold as brass

Soft, rosy metallic accents are making way for more rustic, industrial metals like brass and nickel – delivering a more organic and understated look, full of character and charm. Switch up cabinet handles and taps for aged brass options if you’re looking to make a simple yet effective update, or make a bold statement with metallic kitchen wall tiles to achieve an enviable aesthetic.

Moving away from the ever-popular Scandi trend of light and airy home design, many interior design enthusiasts are turning to dark wood to make a dramatic impact, especially in kitchens. Best applied in well-lit spaces, dark wooden interiors deliver a warm and impactful finish for both modern and traditional designs. Whether you opt for dark oak floors, mahogany worktops or walnut furniture, adding dark wood accents offset by lighter tones will bring a rich and textured finish to see your kitchen through the year.

With so many striking color schemes set to make an impact this year, we hope you’ll find all the inspiration you need to achieve an impactful update on your kitchen in 2018 – whether you’re ready to go bright and bold or soft and subtle.
