It’s no secret that celebrity makeup artists are next level. Their artistry graces every red carpet from Cannes to Hollywood!
Once upon a time, we might’ve only dreamed about achieving that beautiful finish to our makeup found on the big screen. Yet, from Daniel Bauer to James Vincent, celebrity makeup artists have let spill their makeup secrets to their celebrity clientele. Now, this invaluable information has found its way to us!
So, why don’t you read on for 5 of the finest beauty secrets celebrities learnt from their makeup artists? Painting your face has never been so simple.
Remember to moisturise oily skin
Daniel Bauer – whose celebrity clientele extends to Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan – emphasised to Vogue India that, “if you think oily skin gives you a free pass when it comes to moisturising, you’re wrong.”
So, if you want your makeup to settle well on oily skin for a long time, Daniel advises applying setting spray before your foundation! “This hydrates your face and removes any excess oils,” Daniel revealed.
With a renowned career in Bollywood and an understanding of various skin types, we’re inclined to follow Daniel’s lead!

Sheer makeup doesn’t mean too sheer
Mitali Vakil, another guest of Vogue India, divulged the secret to sheer makeup – a trick she uses with her current celebrity muse, Parineeti Chopra. Simply put, you must be as light as possible!
Sheer makeup doesn’t mean a complete lack of makeup at all, but a careful application. Specifically, Mitali suggests adding a smidge of Vaseline to your foundation for a glowy, sheer and natural finish.
Be careful with your contour
Makeup artist Pompy Hans has a few tricks up his sleeve when it comes to contouring celebrity clients. With contour, Pompy emphasises that placement is key, declaring that: “It’s absolutely essential that you apply your contour cream or powder right below your cheekbone and on your jawline.”
This ensures the hollows of your face are emphasised for a sharp and snatched look!
Dab blush beneath your foundation
James Vincent, talented director of artistry for Ardency Inn whose celebrity clients include none other than Kate Moss, Lady Gaga and Liv Tyler, suggested to Marie Claire that we should be adding our favorite blush to our cheeks before foundation “for a glow that looks like it’s coming from beneath the skin.”
James further recommends that “a bright, warm pink at the apple is perfect for any complexion.”
We’ll be sure to heed this beauty secret from James in future.
Wave goodbye to clumpy mascara
To avoid the mess and hassle of clumpy mascara, Chanel celebrity makeup artist, Kara Yoshimoto Bua, unveiled to Marie Claire that we should be using “the handle of a brush to lift the eyelid at the base of the lashes to roll your lashes up and back.”
This means we can wiggle our mascara wand against the base of our lashes, and be sure to pull through any clumps while we’re at it!
