4PLAY--four new original plays from Tanghalang Ateneo Tanghalang Ateneo’s 34th Season, “Journeys”, highlights the many tours that the company will make this year and the rites of passage that our young artists will embark in their theater life.
“4PLAY”, the company’s latest offering, features four new and original plays by four young directors at the start of their professional artistic journeys. “4PLAY” also features the company’s batch of newcomers, all at the onset of their very own journeys in the theater.
Each short play involves a different kind of journey. The comedic “Manos” (written by young playwright and director, Palanca awardee BJ Crisostomo) shows viewers the various struggles that crop up in the course of production work.
The silent and solemn “The Void” zeroes in on the experiences of an outcast as he rides the bumps and cracks of a hostile social environment.
The third play, “Penitensya” (also written by BJ Crisostomo) explores the themes of suffering, knowledge, bliss and ignorance through an unending cycle of violence and bloodshed.
The last play, an untitled piece, finds characters on a quest to answer the question: How does one know what is real and unreal?
“4PLAY” is directed by Jandee Chua, Zyril Carlos, Charles Yee and Christopher Aronson. Set design is by Monica Sebial, sounds design by Yaps Estagle, lighting by Banjo Gonzales and Charles Yee, costumes design by Barth Mariquit and graphics design by Megan Ong.
“4PLAY” runs September 19-21 (7 p.m.) and 22 (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.), at the Fine Arts Annex, Ateneo de Manila University. For tickets and inquiries, contact Miguel Morales at 0917-8041515.
