Since forming 45 Kilo in 2007 during their studies at Bauhaus-University Weimar, Schöpfer and Klapsing’s unique mix of materials and spare approach have become their signature. “We dare to become more and more simple,” says Schöpfer of the duo’s evolution over the past few years. “Let’s see where that leads!”
True to their Bauhaus training, Berlin-based designers Philipp Schöpfer and Daniel Klapsing of 45 Kilo let craft, experimentation, and industrialized production shape their work.
For 45 Kilo’s wall-mounted Hallo work light, for instance, they devised a way to adjust its height by sliding a loop along its overhanging arm, thereby manipulating the wire that supports it. For another project, Chair #3, the duo discovered how to fabricate a three-dimensional wood surface without requiring expensive equipment.
