When you discover you’re going to be a Mom, you get given a massive list of things you’re not able to do safely anymore. If you happen also to have acne, then the obvious question is – are you still able to use 4 benzoyl peroxide face wash at a time when your hormones are going crazy? That’s what we seek to answer for you here.

Benzoyl Peroxide (BP) is a substance that’s proven to eliminate the bacteria that lead to acne forming in the first place. It can be harsh when over-used, resulting in dry skin, so you’re well within your rights to be concerned about the safety of using it when pregnant and breastfeeding.

The good news is that nothing is stopping you from using benzoyl peroxide face wash when pregnant, mainly because very little of the product enters the bloodstream.

So, What Exactly IS 4 Benzoyl Peroxide Face Wash?

Essentially benzoyl peroxide (or BP as we’ll refer to it from now on) is an antiseptic substance that kills bacteria – one of the driving factors behind the appearance of spots. I can be found in a variety of different products, from serums to toners and cleansers.

The number 4 at the beginning refers to the strength of the product, meaning that it has a concentration of 4%. It’s also something that’s available in 2.5% and 10% strengths, with the right one for you depending on the severity of your acne.

It’s very effective at its job, as it removes the conditions that lead to breakouts by also unclogging pores and drawing out all the dead skin cells and dirt that have built up. You do need to be cautious when using it – pregnant or not – as it can lead to dryness and irritation if you’re particularly sensitive.

The FDA Considers it Safe For Expectant Mothers

Another reason you should feel confident in using 4 benzoyl peroxide face wash as a soon-to-be Mom is that the Food and Drug & Administration (FDA) has officially designated it as such. The lack of absorption into the body means that there is almost no risk to the unborn baby.

Notice that the term used was ‘almost’, so if you’re in any way unsure, you should talk to your doctor or midwife regarding the safety of such things. You are going to be prone to more breakouts when pregnant – especially if acne is ordinarily a problem for you, so it’s a very pertinent question to ask, and you shouldn’t feel guilty about wanting to keep the baby safe.

However, if using it after your baby is born, should do your utmost to keep BP away from any part of your body that your baby frequently rests his or her head – like your chest. It’s applied topically, so your baby would need to come into direct contact with it to be at risk of harm.

So There You Have It – 4 Benzoyl Peroxide Face Wash Is Safe!

As we can see, 4 benzoyl peroxide face wash is safe for Moms to be. You want the best for your baby primarily but also for your skin, so it’s good to know that you can safely keep your acne under control during pregnancy.
