4 Advent Calendars That Are So Great It Almost Hurts

By Winyeemichelle
I’m not sure when alternative, luxury calendars became such a thing but I’m not complaining at the opportunity to receive 25 bonus little gifts each year. Advent calendars today are a far cry from the 99p chocolate calendars we had as kids. I for one would prize mine from the wall, crack the frosted damask wallpaper and settle down on 1st December for a night of cheap chocolate eating! Nowadays, you kinda have to step it up and so here are my picks of alternative advent calendars. To be consumed alongside the classic chocolate version.

Debenhams’ Wax Lyrical Candle Advent Calendar - £15

Whilst I’m not a huge fan of the traditional advent candles (my best friend and I once managed to burn through EIGHT DAYS in one evening whilst indulging in a particularly gossip-fuelled sesh), this calendar is a wonderful option for yourself or for a loved one. I picked one up for my boyfriend’s Mum who LOVED it. The calendar features a glass tealight holder plus 25 festive fragranced tealights.

Fortnum & Mason’s Christmas Tea Lovers Advent Calendar - £25

For the tea lovers out there, which let’s be frank should be any Daisybutter reader, this calendar houses 24 of Fortnum & Mason’s much heralded teas, each in a signature silky tea bag. The calendar itself is beautiful, covered in the English heritage department store’s bespoke illustrations and the price is relatively great for a F&M product. One for you or even for your ever-beloved Grandma.

Accessorize’s Christmas Advent Calendar - £15

A little more affordable, the Accessorize offering is perfect for your younger sister. Housing a charm bracelet and 24 delicate charms, it’s a brilliant option for somebody just finding their roots in personal style. I know that I would’ve LOVED this as a pre-teen: just imagine the fun in swapping charms or gifting charms to your BFFL of the week!

Superdrug’s Makeup Revolution Advent Calendar - £30

Another affordable, off-the-beaten-path calendar is this cruelty-free Makeup Revolution calendar from Superdrug. It houses 25 makeup products across the eye, lip and face categories, creating a wonderful collection of cruelty-free beauty. It’s perfect if you’re making the transition because, duh, 25 new bits of makeup, or for gifting to friends who are also making the switch.
