One of my first duties of the day is to put out the London Walks schedule to our 5,000+ Twitter followers. Today there are 14 different walking tours.
Back in 1976 things were a little different. 14 London Walks in a day? Not even 14 London Walks in a week!

As you can see, the fee for a tour back then was 50p and the tours took place mainly at weekends. My eye is drawn to the walk Vanishing London – Dockland. Which has now, of course, vanished to be replaced by London's still-growing "third city". Some of you will be joining us today, perhaps in Spitalfields or The City. How much of the 2015 London that you will see today will have vanished come 2054?
Some things, we're pleased to say, remain constant. There's no need to book (hooray!) and the walks take place in all weather – we're very proud of both of those things.
Later on – we're doing seven posts for our blog's seventh birthday today – we'll post a version of today's London Walks leaflet, a much more comprehensive affair.
