3 Tips to Help You Buy Safe Supplements

By Lyndsay S @lyndsinreallife

Supplements have become an incredibly lucrative market for companies. In 2021, the supplements market was estimated to be worth around $151.9 billion and is expected to continue growing all the way through to 2030 and beyond. There’s certainly a massive audience for these types of products, but it begs the question: are supplements actually worth paying for?

After all, supplements are there to strengthen a diet. You should ideally get your nutrients and minerals from food and not tablets, but there are some situations where it might be harder to do so. As a result, we rely on supplements to help fortify our diet with good minerals and nutrients.

Unfortunately, marketing and false advice around supplements have made it difficult to know what works and what doesn’t. So to help you cut through all of the misinformation, here are some tips on how you can safely take supplements.

Always get your supplements from reputable online stores

The first thing to consider is where you buy your supplements. Far too many people look for the cheapest option and end up buying low-quality or fake products from shady sellers. Whether it’s a well-known CBD oil online store or a trusted seller that imports products, you have to do a bit of research to figure out who you can trust and who you should be avoiding. This will not only give you peace of mind, but you’ll also be buying real products that can actually help you get the benefits that you’re looking for.

Don’t fall for the ridiculous claims on packaging

It’s common to see extremely vague or ridiculous claims on packaging for supplements. For example, you might see some supplements claim that they can change your body. Some will advertise that they have a unique or special ingredient, but in reality, it’ll only have a small percentage of it. It’s a good idea to look at the packaging and nutritional values because those are usually accurate and will reflect what’s inside. However, if there’s anything that makes a ridiculous claim then there’s a good chance you should avoid it. In many cases, plain packaging is often a lot better since it’s clear how much you’re taking in each capsule or pill.

Know what each nutrient does to your body

You should also learn more about each nutrient in your supplements and understand what they can do for your body. It’s usually a lot more accurate to do research on the nutrient itself and not the product, especially if you’re aiming for specific benefits. In this sense, you could actually buy herbal supplements that have higher doses because you know exactly what to look for. In many cases, products that have many different nutrients can end up being less effective because they’re mixed in with filler products or nutrients that you don’t want or need. While it takes a bit more work (and sometimes money) to get individual nutrients like this, it’s usually a lot better and teaches you more about nutrition in general.
