While it’s often overshadowed by larger cities like Buffalo or New York City, Rochester, New York is a wonderful place to visit. Filled with historic charm and some of the most beautiful scenery in New York, it has something to offer everyone. The city is located in the famous New York Finger Lakes and is surrounded by several waterways. With Lake Ontario directly north of the city, the Genesee River flowing through it and the Erie Canal running along the city’s border, there are many options for boating and other water activities.

However, the city has so much more to offer than just a pretty view. Whether you’re looking for amazing live performances, sightseeing or in need of a romantic getaway, there are several things you should check out on your visit to New York’s third largest city.

Check out the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra

Housed in the historic Eastman theatre, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra is definitely a must-see for anyone looking to enjoy the arts. They have an amazing group of talented performers. Pops Conductor and Grammy Award winner Jeff Tyzik has a reputation for creating brilliant arrangements and original programing. After the show, you can spend a relaxing evening at The Strathallan hotel, conveniently located in the Neighborhood of the Arts. Check out High Falls

Rochester, New York is home to three waterfalls, the most famous being High Falls. This beautiful waterfall played a key role in the early industrial revolution of Rochester and is a rare example of nature and industry working hand in hand. A breathtaking view of the falls can be had from a pedestrian bridge that spans the Genesee River just a few hundred feet from the base of the falls. You can tour the house and outbuildings, getting a good look at what life was like at the turn of the century. Also, the property houses the International Museum of Film and Photography, which is home to one of the largest archives of photographs and films in the world. You can enjoy a film festival at the on-site Dryden Theatre, and afterward you can spend a relaxing night at the Del Monte Hotel and Spa.
