3 Tips for Being Healthy When You Travel

By Twothirstytravellers @2thirstytrav

One of the biggest challenges I have while traveling especially long term is how to ensure that my health is still a priority. If you’re anything like me, then you probably relish trying all the new foods and local alcohols while on vacation. That’s all good and well if you’re away on a short vacation, but if your trip away extends over a few weeks or longer then you’re going to have to consider how to balance enjoying your time away with taking care of yourself. Here are my top 3 tips for being healthy when you travel:

1. Keep Active
It can be tempting to spend the entire vacation lounging by the pool ordering cocktails during happy hour, and while there’s nothing wrong with that, balance is a good idea here. When you’re out exploring a new place, I personally love walking as much as possible. You see more when you’re on the street and moving at a slower pace, compared to with what you see when you’re on the metro for example. If you usually enjoy hiking, why not consider going on a few hikes in the places you’re visiting too. Keeping active is a great way to burn off all those margaritas and extra desserts you’re enjoying.

2. Take Care of Yourself
Just because you’re on vacation, doesn’t mean it’s OK to skip on your basic needs. It can be easy to fall into the trap of partying late and getting up early to make the most of the day, meaning that you barely get a few hours sleep each day. It’s important to take care of yourself, especially when on the road, because there’s nothing worse than being sick in a foreign country, especially if you don’t speak the language and can’t communicate what you need. Make sure to take time out to relax, don’t overdo things and to try to keep a good sleep routine. If you find that you get stressed flying or have anxiety about certain types of travel, it could be a good idea to talk to your doctor before you leave. The HealthcareDispensary.com and https://www.ingaiashands.net might have some products that can help you relax before your next big adventure overseas.

3. Split Meals
Eating out is part of the fun of traveling – after all, it’s a wonderful way to try new cuisines and to get a real taste of the local food. But often restaurants serve extremely large portions that are heavy with a lot of calories – while there’s nothing wrong with that, it can be harder to take leftovers home when you’re traveling and don’t have somewhere to reheat things. so I suggest if you’re traveling with at least one other person that you start ordering smart. When I’m traveling with my husband, we usually like to order one main and one entre to share, finding that’s usually enough food for us both. This also helps us keep food costs down as we’re not ordering 2+ mains. Experiment to see what works for you best.

Travelling is one of life’s greatest joys, and with these tips you’ll be able to keep healthy while on the road.
