3 Simple Tips For A Better Ready Position

By Jen Campbell @TennisLife_Mag

Hey everyone! Do you ever feel sometimes that your reactions are slow? Like you're one step away from getting to the ball? Do you miss super easy shots or returns because you weren't ready in time?

The problem is most likely your ready position. When waiting up at net or at the baseline to return a ball, many recreational players stand with their legs straight and feet planted, hunched over at the waist holding their racket out in front but the head lowered below their waist.

In this position, the player not only needs time to move to the ball, but even more time to bring the racquet head up and unlock their knees before they can even start moving towards the ball. And those precious seconds can cost you points.

The solution? Implement these easy-peazy steps for a better ready position and ultimately quicker reactions to the ball:

1) Keep your racquet head up
2) Have a wide stance with slightly bent knees
3) Stay on the balls of your feet with your weight forward

These simple steps are game-changers. Use them and you'll be in a good ready position to get to the ball quicker for better results!
